Eleven years ago I had a MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT that left me paralyzed from the waist down and unable to feel as well. I am now WHEELCHAIR bound. CRAB has been a life-saver for me. Any donation amount helps the organization continue.
Five years ago I learned about CRAB and began sailing in their 22’ sailboats. Very experienced volunteer skippers & crew took me out onto the Chesapeake Bay and taught me how to handle the tiller to steer with an extension and provided lots of guidance.
The Annual CRAB CUP REGATTA (race) FUNDRAISER is major event in the Annapolis REGIONAL Area on the Chesapeake Bay. Over 100 sailboats of various sizes register to race Each sailboat sets a donation goal for the C.R.A.B sailing nonprofit. Some of these sailboats are over forty feet. CRAB's six sailboats start the race and are quickly overtake our six sailboats. Sailboats are grouped type and size and judged separately. CRAB's six sailboats are in a separate group and judged as such.
The last two years I was allowed to be the guest skipper (with guidance from a volunteer senior skipper) for the Annual CRAB Cup Challenge Regatta in one of CRAB’s six sailboats. These were my first regattas ever.
When I am handling the tiller, I forget that I am a paraplegic and 79 years old. I am so grateful for the CRAB organization, all the volunteer skippers, crew and others. I thank all those who DONATE to My Skippers Challenge to make this dream possible for me and others who have challenges.
