We are thrilled to be competing in the CRAB Cup for the third year in a row! Please join us by helping us FUNdraise!
Support equal access to the Bay for people with disabilities.
As a Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating (CRAB) volunteer since 2019 I am excited to be steering a J105 in this regatta again this year. We are dedicating our FUNdraising efforts to a dear friend and fellow J105 sailboat racer who very sadly coincidentally died last year on the day of the CRAB Cup regatta. Maggie Flanigan loved to sail. She was a kind and generous soul and truly brought people together. Her humor and willingness to go the extra mile will always be an inspiration to me. Maggie succeeded in helping get more and more woman sailboat racing enthusiasts out on the water competing. She fostered camaraderie in our racing community and for that we are thankful.
CRAB was founded on the principle that people with disabilities can and should be able to live fulfilling and joyful lives and have equitable access to meaningful, therapeutic sailing.
Since opening the premier Adaptive Boating Center in 2023, CRAB has grown significantly. Guests continue to gain confidence in their abilities as they learn to sail. The ABC has allowed CRAB to greatly expanded it's capacity for more guests. Dream Catcher, CRAB’s 40’ power catamaran, provides guests the option to enjoy the water without leaving the comfort of their wheelchair. Wellness programs are held all year so guests can remain active, creative, and social while enjoying a fully accessible environment.
This clearly demonstrates the CRAB's commitment to providing a safe and enjoyable experience for people of all abilities. CRAB and the ABC strive to ensure that all its guests feel welcome and comfortable during their time there. The ABC is a shining example of how a modern facility can be designed to be accessible and inclusive for all people.
